The Magnificent American Bandog Mastiff

Though they may not be recognized by any kennel clubs, and they are not considered “purebred” as of now… The Bandog Mastiff this is in part American PitBull Terrier and Nepolitan Mastiff; and like any other breed there history is extending and its predictable that their status will be recognized by breeders and Kennel clubs.

The history of the American Bandog Mastiff breeding has been over forty years. There existents today is due the efforts of John Swinford and his pursuit to breed the “supreme” dog guardian by carefully combining the Pit bull Terrier and a giant and muscular Neplitan Mastiff. The resulting efforts was taken over by Joe Lucero, who made further tweaks to the breeds evolution, he was the one that coined the phrase “American Bandog Mastiff”

The high brow attitude some dog breeders have to this type of dog may be in part due to its frequency of further cross-breed by armatures. However the pure breed developed by Swinford and Lucero would be of the most stable of temperament; exhibiting high character qualities of a guardian. You could easily spot the real American Bandog Mastiff the proud muscular build, as well as the fit demeanor. You’ll find that the majority of this breed come in the color of a brindle black, but don’t be surprised if you see them come ina dark blue tinge, or even red.

Docile can be used to describe a key characteristic of this dog. True, the Bandog Mastiff was specifically bread for guardianship however their normal functioning is confident and mild. I guess when your 100 – 145 lbs dog, you would strut around quite confidently.

Add high Intelligence; The American Bandog Mastiff would do chalkboard math if it didn’t lack the dexterity of opposable thumbs. Training can be a breeze, as they are attentive and will pick up on your every command. Keep in mind that you need to be the “Master” but once they see you as pack leader they will have no trouble at all.

Some would say that one minor disadvantage of this breed is its reluctance to bark, when encountering strangers. However I see it as an advantage, because a good guard dog does not need to be loud to protect, they just need to ward of the threat; and that they do. However they will howl, and they will do it when you’re gone; The Bandog Mastiff hates to be alone. There lost without their owners, as their primary objective is to please and protect; loyalty is no issue with this breed.

Not only is the Bandog Mastiff loyal to you, but other pet members of your family; most expecilly if they have grown up around them. They will even play with kittens, but be aware, if he has not been socialized with kittens before hand, this meeting will be gradual introduction as they can be too aggressive.

Apartment dwellers will find that this dog would make a good pet, as they will lounge around the house quite comfortably, and their shedding is minimal to average. Grooming is a synch with regular brushings; removing dead skin and hair. Make note that they are a big dog, and they will need plenty of exercise, but this is a positive as it’s an excuse to get out of the house and get into the park. Female owners would defiantly feel more protected by the American Bandog Mastiff as an alternative to the pocket sized chiwawa.

The American Bandog Mastiff gives and deserves a-lot of love, So to be an owner of this breed is a mutual benefit: “Ownership of this “breed” is a Joy, because they posess much loyalty and love for their masters.”
